Bill began his career in real estate in 1978. He has an extensive background in residential and commercial real estate as well as property management. In 1995, Bill opened Poteet Properties, Inc., a commercial real estate business and has been operating it successfully since. In 2001 the company expanded its services to include residential sales. In 2003, Poteet Properties, Inc. expanded its services to include property management.
In 1994 Bill earned the Certified Leasing Specialist (CLS) designation from the International Council of Shopping Centers and has worked on numerous retail developments. He has been listed in Outstanding Young Men of America and Who's Who in Business and Professionals. Poteet Properties, Inc. is recognized as one of Naples' prominent real estate businesses. The firm and its founder have taken an active role in community activities. From civic, to charitable events, to political functions, the organization has been involved in numerous community events. Bill believes his extensive community involvement allows him to better represent the clients he serves.
Bill is an active menber of Naples Area Board of REALTORS (NABOR), currently serving as President. He has chaired the Commercial Committee, Governmental Issues Committee, and the Budget & Finance Committee. The Naples Board bestowed him the 2006 Ad Miller Award. In 2007, he was recognised as a member of the NABOR Honor Society. In 2008 & 2010 he was recognized as NABORS' Citizen of the Year. In 2009 Bill was award the Humanitarian Award. He holds a GRI designation and At Home with Diversity certification.
Bill plays an active role with the Florida Association of REALTORS serving as an FAR Director since 2008, and is Vice Chair of the Land Use, Property Rights, and Sustainable Development Sub Committee. Bill is a Key Contact for State Representatives Matt Hudson.
In 2012 Bill will serve as an NAR Director, a committee member on NAR's Land Use Committee and Commercial Committee. He was appointed in 2011 as United States Congressman David Rivera's contact for NAR (Federal Political Coordinator)
Bill's community involvement is extensive. He is an active adult leader with the Boy Scouts serving on the Executive Board of the Southwest Florida Council and an Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 2. He is a menber at Gulfview Middle School SAC Committee. Bill is past President of the Golden Gate Area Civic Association and current Chair of Conservation Collier Land Acquisition Board, and on the Board for the Junior Deputy League of Collier County. Previous community efforts include Vice President of the Florida Jaycees, President of the Marco Island Jaycees, Vice Chair of the I-75/Golden Gate Parkway Interchange Ad Hoc , the Marco Island Beautification Committee, the Collier C ounty Homeless Advisory Board, the Collier County Fair Board, and Board of Directors for the GreaterNaples Chamber of Commerce. He is a graduate of Leadership Collier, Class of 2001 and a member of the Leadership Collier Alumni Association. Bill is the recipient of the 2008 Collier Citizen's Golden Gate Citizen of the Year Award in recognition of years of community service.
